This course will better inform the designer about Operating Room design, critical factors involved in designing an OR and the key equipment essential to design integration for functionality and space planning. This course also explains how new surgical techniques create a need to reassess the conventional design of these rooms.

Learning Objectives: 
  1. Identify and navigate the key physical factors and workflow considerations when designing new and renovated OR’s
  2. Describe how emerging technology is pushing us to consider designing these spaces with both the footprint and the electrical requirements for ancillary pieces of equipment (robots, imaging, etc.,) in mind
  3. Identify the equipment needs and proper placement for a multi-specialty or specialty-specific OR
  4. Effectively communicate the best practices and potential pitfalls of all OR design decisions
