An Introduction to Specifying Decorative Hardwood Plywood

This course will introduce the architect and designer to ways to specify decorative hardwood plywood, in order to satisfy various visual and performance requirements. The architect and designer will gain an understanding of the different face & core options available, and why certain choices can optimize a project's utility and value. Participants will also know what to consider in terms for the adhesive resins and sourcing aspects for decorative hardwood plywood and their effect on the product's sustainability considerations.

Learning Objectives: 
  1. Explain the basics of decorative hardwood plywood, how it is manufactured, and its visual performance attritutes
  2. Compare and contrast the different types of cores and adhesives that are used to manufacture decorative hardwood plywood with an emphasis on urea formaldehyde and NAUF
  3. Discuss the different types of veneer options offered (including species, grading, and cut)
  4. Discuss the "Natural Characteristics" commonly found in wood veneer
