When not fully considered, storage can limit efficiency, accessibility, and opportunities to enhance the overall living experience. This course explores how adjustable storage systems can be specified as high-performance building components that improve space utilization, support occupant well-being, and adapt to evolving lifestyle needs. Participants will examine different storage system types, evaluate their impact on safety and durability, and learn how to specify solutions without the need for detailed closet design. Through real-world examples and case studies, the course demonstrates how thoughtful storage specification can increase usable space, reduce material waste, and support long-term residential usability, including aging in place. All the while, delivering meaningful added value to the project with minimal impact on overall construction cost. By approaching storage as a system rather than an afterthought, Architects can enhance both the function and perceived value of residential spaces.
