Wednesday, January 7, 2026 Season 1, Episode 7

This podcast introduces design professionals to the fundamentals of cable-infill railing systems, covering how materials, tensioning mechanics, fittings, and post selection contribute to structural safety and long-term performance. The session reviews key code requirements, common design and installation challenges, and best practices for documenting compliance under CSI Division 05. Listeners will also explore material sourcing, sustainability considerations, and maintenance strategies that support durability and minimize liability. The program provides practical guidance to help architects specify and coordinate cable-rail systems that perform reliably throughout the building’s lifecycle.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the primary components of cable-infill railing systems and explain how these elements interact to support structural stability, occupant safety, and long-term performance.
  2. Explain how codes and standards such as the IBC, IRC, and applicable ASTM test methods guide design decisions related to tension requirements, deflection limits, spacing, and overall compliance for cable-rail applications in different building types.
  3. Evaluate the impacts of environmental exposure, thermal expansion, corrosion potential, and routine maintenance on the durability and lifecycle of cable-infill systems, including strategies for mitigating risks and extending service life.
  4. Apply best practices for specification, documentation, and coordination to reduce liability and ensure system reliability from design through occupancy.
